Chic Mother’s Day Gifts for the Leading Ladies in Your Life

Mother’s Day is the perfect occasion to celebrate the leading ladies in your life—whether it’s your mom, mother-in-law, significant other, best friend, or even the mom to your adorable pets! Honestly, I find myself taking any excuse to make the people in my life feel loved and pampered—meaning that May 14th offers the perfect opportunity to reconnect with family, friends, and other loved ones.

To help make those special mothers in your life feel especially valued, try one or more of the gift ideas below. Or take the day to celebrate yourself—after all, who wouldn’t love these amazing presents?!

The Fabulous Homemaker

Let’s get real—most “stay at home” moms tend to have more jobs than the rest of us, from taking care of the kids to cooking, cleaning, or even telecommuting. Whatever reason keeps her at home, chances are she could use something beautiful to make her feel appreciated.

Now’s the time to lay the groundwork—if you don’t yet know her favorite flowers, start asking some subtle questions to figure it out. Then find a fabulous local florist and place your order far in advance (just to be safe). Make the bouquet as fabulous as she is by asking them to deliver it in the gorgeous Lionel Richie Home Collection Manhattan Vase (most high-quality flower shops are happy to accommodate!). Add a set of LOVE plates, also from the LRH collection, and set a gorgeous table for a decadent brunch celebrating your favorite lady!

The Life of the Party

Many mamas also enjoy the night out, even if they do spend most of their days cooped up at home or stuck in an office. For the lady who loves to work hard and play harder, there’s nothing better than some gorgeous glassware, such as these hand-blown crystal Champagne Flutes from Tiffany and Co.

Pair this exquisite china with some Moet & Chandon Rose Imperial Sparkling Wine and a pitcher of fresh-squeezed orange juice, and this mom can enjoy her own “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” whenever she desires. After all, what’s better to recover from a night of partying than a light mimosa (or two) to take the edge off?

The Hostess Supreme

Whether planning showers, hosting dinner parties, or leading her ladies’ book club, the hostess supreme is always in need of some good stationery. So, why not gift her some extraordinary stationery that’s equally as beautiful as she is? I absolutely love this Engraved Koi Fish Heavyweight Card with Painted Edge stationery set from Crane. This set of cards is both sturdy and lovely, the perfect combination for a lady in charge.

Make writing all of those invitations by hand a little easier for her by adding an elegant Ivory Fountain Pen from Waterman Paris. The smooth flow will make it gentler on her hand, ensuring she can write all of those thank you letters effortlessly, while the stunning design will add even more beauty to her life.

The Garden Lover

For those ladies who can’t get enough of the beauty and tranquility of a gorgeous rose garden, what could be better than an exquisite, long-lasting Parisian-inspired floral arrangement from Venus et Fleur?! Their stunning Eternity roses can stay fresh for an entire year, and the Parisian-style keepsake hatbox they arrive in are perfect to store away beloved mementos for years to come.

The Career Woman

Offer the ultimate de-stressing experience to the dedicated career woman in your life with The Estate Collection’s Manhattan luxury candle. With hints of lemon, bergamot, jasmine, and orchid, you’ll be offering her not just a gorgeous decorative item, but a truly uplifting fragrance as well.

Complement her new spa experience with 12 months of Bellocq luxury tea and you may notice that she goes from overworked and exhausted to relaxed and serene!

Celebrate the Leading Ladies in Your Life

Make this May 14th the day you let the ladies in your life know how much you care for them. Happy Mother’s Day!

Designing A Festive Easter Table Setting

Spring is in full bloom, and I’m loving the fresh air, the scent of blossoming flowers, and the colorful foliage of this vibrant season. Another thing I love about this time of year is Easter—it’s the perfect opportunity to gather family and friends and celebrate.

As with any occasion, no celebration would be complete without a fabulous table setting to set the tone for the event. In anticipation of Easter Sunday this coming weekend, I’ve brought together a few of my favorite table elements to provide a little inspiration for those of you planning to entertain this Easter.

In keeping with the spring spirit, I designed a fun and youthful table for the enjoyment of adults and children alike—and I even incorporated some of the pastel color palette that I shared last week!

Much of the symbolism that we associate with Easter focuses on birth, rebirth, and babies. Think of decorated eggs, blooming flowers, fresh grass, and of course the cute little bunnies themselves.

I like to think of the spring as the chance for a clean slate—the opportunity to pick up any discarded New Years’ resolutions and set goals to last for the rest of the year. Something about all of the rain and baby animals just makes it seem as though anything is possible! To set the stage for this mentality of renewal, I started my tablescape with a plain but elegant white tablecloth. This neutral hue also complements the light color palette of the season, making it a perfect fit.

When was the last time you tried dyeing some hard-boiled eggs? I thought, why not give in to the youthfulness of the season by trying out this practice again? As an adult, you can bring a skilled artistic eye to egg painting that renders gorgeous designs. Plus, it’s a lot of fun dyeing the eggs! I like to use a bit less dye or submerge my eggs for less time to color them in pastel shades perfect for a spring-themed table setting.

As another symbol of spring, any budding blossom makes a fabulous statement for an Easter tablescape. Just follow your heart—or nose—to your favorite flower and let your intuition be your guide. You might even choose some especially dark or bright flowers to accent your table, adding a pop of color that provides a gorgeous “wow” factor. Plus, the scent offered by these blooms is absolutely divine!

To finish my table setting, I love bringing in some of my favorite china. I decided to offset the pastels with a chic gold flourish from the gold-embossed London plates from the Lionel Richie Home Collection. This design doesn’t overpower the other color elements but seems to make them shine, if possible, even more brightly. I suggest pairing this china set with some small verdant elements that reflect the life of the season, such as a few deep green leaves and a sprig of flowers.

To complete the occasion, bring in a cocktail that matches the table in both flavor and design. I particularly enjoy pink, so I suggest pairing some peach Bellini with a sweet rosé—serving these in some gorgeous crystal wine glasses allows the color to further complement the tablescape. Spring is the time to take in some of the sweeter liquors, which are especially appreciated when served chilled on a hot day.

Just remember to go with the feel of the season. Think pastel colors (with a few darker accents here and there!), warmth, and rebirth (eggs, baby animals). Take in a few minutes of delicious sunlight and let the renewal and warmth of spring inspire you to design a tablescape that’s just right for the Easter season.

You are Invited!

invited post dream design discover

‘Tis the season for dinner parties. Enjoy a few of my favorite dinner tips…

Build excitement with the invite:

Your invitations offer peek into the style and them of your dinner. If your going glam, you’ll need an invitation to match.

The thickness of the paper, the wording and even the time of the dinner will clue guest into the formality of the event. Metallic inks and foils can add a touch of luxe and fancy to your invitation and still keep the design sophisticated.

Inform about the attire:

This will guarantee a smart look for the entire guest list. If you are planning to hold a formal dinner let your guest know how you would them to be dressed for the occasion. Nobody wants to be under-dressed.

Formal or Cocktail, Business Casual, Beach Casual or Casual are terms that are often used to described the dress code… don’t try to get to creative with describing the dress code. Otherwise your guest will feel confused and nobody wants to look out of place.

  • black tie should appear in the lower right-hand corner of the invitations, if you wish your guest to arrived dressed in formal attire.

  • When a response card is sent with the invitation, it should be used for the reply, rather than a handwritten response.

If you have a beautiful centerpieces you should high light it with colors or lights.

Light up the dessert or the cocktail area. Draw attention to the beautiful things and conversation pieces of your dinner decor. Winter Chic Looks are COOL, CLEAN, SCANDINAVIAN OR SIBERIAN WINTER decoration looks.

Tea Pleasures….

team with dream design discover

The heritage of “sweet treats”—gourmandises—is more than a mere childhood memory.

The evocative flavours of those creamy, fruity, wonderfully smooth and mouth-filling delights can still inhabit our lives.

So the next time your hosting a high tea, remember to pick high quality tea brands with a rich flavor. You will notice the difference right away! Obviously you don’t have to hunt this tea brand down all the way to London. Explore different flavors and brand and find the one that speak to most to you.

Add Macaroons to your daily tea…which I just love as part of the decoration!

Enjoy your tea!

007 Goldfinger Tablescape Accessories for the Holidays!

The table. This is where the serious conversations happen, where the memories are made. A great table delights the eye at least as much as the food! We’re encouraging to add a dash of gold to make a bright and bold statement for your next dinner party. A few tips to go gold correctly:

50 shades of gold.

Gold in the correct amount and shade, makes everything more glamorous. Remember to keep everything else on the table simple and not too busy.  Clean, minimalist and chic is what we are going for when it comes to gold.

All that glitters is not gold.

Find the correct shade of gold for your tablescape accessories. We love rose gold, as it’s always very inviting and elegant and it’s not too shiny nor over the top.

The classic touch.

A mix between old world charm with a dashing sense of fun works lovely with gold pieces. Mix and match modern and antique pieces together for a beautiful complement of texture, color and vibrancy.

Betsy Bloomingdale once told me…”The most important thing is the mix. It’s not what you put on the tables, it’s who you put in the chairs.”

Here are a few must-haves to tie in gold to your next dinner party:

These pieces can be found at Macy’s, click here.

Dinner at the Versace Mansion in Miami

Could there be a better location than the Villa of Gianni Versace to host a beautiful dinner party in Miami? The answer is clearly NO!It’s simply a fabulous backdrop for any party.

I wanted to share some photos from my most recent time in Miami for Art Basel and our time spent at the mansion…plus a little fact list on the property. You will be blown away. Enjoy!

Did you know?

1. Versace bought Casa Casuarina the 1930s Villa in 1992 for $2.9 million as well as an art deco hotel next door for $4 million.

2. Two years after Versace’s death, the mansion was purchased for $19 million unfurnished.

3. The 23,000 square foot villa has 10 bedrooms and 11 bathrooms, 54 foot long pool with 24k gold.

4. Bruce Weber shot the house and the Versaces for a 1993 “Vogue” shoot

5. Casa Casuarina is the only private residence on Ocean Drive

I was fascinated by the Italian inspired charm, mosaic details and Terra-cotta colored walls. The pool was apparently made in bella Italia and then broken down and shipped to Miami to be build up again by a team of 75. The Mansion has more than 100 million Italian mosaic tiles. After spending 33 million in renovation, Gianni did what we would do….start throwing beautiful dinners and parties!

Favorite Florist in NYC

Flowers are an unexpected and chic way to add drama to any tablescape. I feel the need to share my New York Florist, so you too can experience what I had.

After having finalized all the details of the dinner party, I needed to make the choice on an amazing florist, that understands elegance, simplicity. Think contemporary with a touch of classic tradition. I discovered the amazing team at Van Vliet and Tramp.

They completely understood the creative direction of the evening!

Before calling any florist, pick your color palette according to the season and theme of the tablescape.
Of course they can make suggestions, however I think it’s best to have an idea of what you would like to do. Similar with clothing, you should have an idea of what you’re looking for….

The selection of flowers was a combination of:

  • Phalaenopsis Orchids
  • Dahlias
  • Calla Lilies
  • Green Hydrangea

The evening was filled with such elegant and classic charm, breath taking tabletop with white and gold details…

How to splurge on a budget:

  • select season flowers
  • select flowers with a larger face
  • book a location that’s naturally pretty
  • add candles for decoration so you can use less flower arrangements

How to Set a Table for a Dinner Party

How do you set your table properly?

I assume you know how to set a table, but lets say you didn’t because some of you maybe rarely host a dinner… 🙂 I received an email with the question on how to set a table properly, so I thought I would answer it here!

Beautiful, you have made it this far, invitations are out and your guests are almost here.

Food is cooked, wine is chilled…  It’s time for a dinner party!

Remember the famous scene in  “Pretty Woman”, when Julia Roberts says “slippery little su@#%!” (watch it)
as the escargot flies from her plate… for some reason I just thought of that.

Anyway… so you’re ready to set the table. Take a look below for the perfect layout.

The graphic below is pretty self explanatory (oh, and the napkin goes on your left!) You could also place the napkin in the center of the plate with a napkin ring or just nicely folded. Try a fancy napkin fold to surprise and delight your guests. And of course, don’t forget your napkin etiquette during the party!

In case you want to print out: download here!

To add a special touch to your table, add flowers and candle. I personally don’t like large flower arrangements on the table during dinner, because it blocks the view to your guest and it’s sometime hard to have a conversation while looking through the plants :). However, simple flower arrangements are always and elegant way to add a touch of color to your table setting and highlight the theme of the evening.
